Sleep isn’t the only way to rest…

“The biggest power is rest - deep rest, and love. If these two things are present in life then everything else will come.”

— Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

If there is ever to be a goal in life, it should be to be well rested.

From a well rested state, everything flourishes, and grows with strength and durability. We become better at both receiving what we need, and discerning of what we don't need.

When it comes to being well rested, I'm not just talking about sleep. Sleep is an important piece of the puzzle, but deep rest that results in a state we call 'restful alertness' takes life to a whole new level. The state of restful alertness is reached when we practice transcending meditation. The brain begins to function with significantly greater coherence, and the body gains deep rest for the release of chronic and deep stress. This same state of restful alertness that is experienced with our eyes closed, then begins to become part of our waking state more spontaneously.

From a state of restful alertness, we can achieve more, by doing less. Our physiology is better equipped with an enriched blood supply to the brain. Efficiency is at its greatest. And because we become more sophisticated in how we use our precious energy, we are less likely to ever reach the point of complete depletion.

Do you feel like you're living, and loving, from a state of restful alertness? If not, can you close your eyes just for a moment, and imagine how life would flow if restful alertness was a more common state of being?

Shared with love and a smile,
