The illusion of time
“The distinction between the past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.”
— Albert Einstein
For you and I, the concept of time is a construct of human memory. A collection of past memories, and what we anticipate that is yet to come, is how we tend to make sense of time.
The fact that we have clocks is also kind of crazy. There is a sense that time is always moving forward (as clocks do), and that our time here on earth is limited. We have been so subtly programmed to this so called "time", which makes us feel that time is running out and that gives rise to the ubiquitous state of fear.
If you take a moment to think about what time means to you - my bet is you either think about something that has happened or more so, something that is yet to happen. "That holiday last year will be hard to beat!", or "can't wait to see you at the concert next week!". And with that, you rather quickly lost your bearings of the here and now!
"Our consciousness is almost completely preoccupied with memory and expectation. We do not realise that there never was, is, nor will be any other experience than the present experience."*
When we fall into the limitless depths of the absolute twice a day through transcendence, we are reminded of not only our unbounded and infinite capabilities, but also that time is indeed a construct and in that place of our Being, it ceases to exist. And the more we experience it that way, the more we are delivered to the here and now. The place where the greatest things happen.
